This step of the first iteration of the design of a 30m Sailing Cargo Vessel is used to determine the weight of the vessel and the location of the center of gravity.
The first step is to determine the Lightship weight. The lightship weight is the weight of the functional ship items. It uses the General Arrangement and the Construction steps as input. Further assumptions are made of the weights of systems, paint, equipment and interior finishing and items. Where possible the 3D model is used to determine these values.
When the Lightship has been determined, the load cases can be determined and will give an idea of the total displacement at different stages of the voyage and with different amounts of cargo.
The load cases are used as input on the next step of this iteration: hydrostatics and stability together with the hull shape.
