TSP300 – Construction

In this stage of the first iteration of the boat design we have a high over look at the construction setup. We look at construction zones and determine for each zone the required construction scantlings. These are the thicknesses and geometry of the construction components required. For this project I used Lloyd’s Register Special Service Craft rules.
For this design I choose for transverse framing over longitudinal framing to aid the ease of building and reducing welding required. This will mean that the construction will end up a bit heavier.
From these calculations I made three sections through the 3D model and modeled the construction main frames. These 3D sections I used to create the Main Frames 2D drawings.
These drawings are used to determine the plate to stiffener ratio’s for the weight calculations as well as used for discussions with a shipyard or builder to discuss the construction principles such as using cutting or forming at the stiffeners etc. before the entire construction is determined.
